With a few simple routine maintenance procedures you can ensure the best performance and efficiency from you system. Remember safety first consider these precautions. Precautions before you start: Disconnect all electrical power sources to your system before removing any access panels to perform maintenance. There may be more than one power source or connection switch. Remember to be careful of sharp objects and wiring when reaching into your unit. Check the air filter in the furnace or return air filter grill every four weeks and clean or replace it if it appears to be dirty at all. Dirty filters cause excessive strain on your heating and/or air conditioning system and can double utility costs. If accessible clean any dirt, dust, or lint from inside the blower compartment or filter return area. Inspect your furnace’s combustion area and venting system before each heating season. If you find any soot or rust, A1 American Heating & Air Conditioning should check your system. Keep your outside condensing unit (air conditioner) free of debris. With the power disconnected you can gently hose off or vacuum the outdoor coil to clear dirt, dust, and debris. Make sure your outdoor condensing unit remains in a level position at all times (split systems only). Simple Basic Troubleshooting Can I troubleshoot before calling A1 American for service? Yes you can. Here are some simple procedures to follow before going through the expense of a service call. Check the system disconnect switches or main power sources indoor and outdoor if accessible. These disconnect switches should be located within six feet of your unit(s). Make sure your circuit breaker(s) are on and have not tripped, if your not sure if a circuit breaker has tripped or not then reset it anyway by flipping the switch to the off position and then back to the on position again. If you have a way of checking your air conditioner fuses, make sure they are not blown. Check your vents for sufficient airflow. Make sure filters are clean and all supply / return air grills are open and unobstructed.
